Reunion Group

Reunion is a point-trick game found in several 19th century German card game manuals. It has some affinity with Euchre games in that the highest trumps are the Jack of the trump suit followed by the other Jack of the same colour. In the oldest descriptions German suited cards are used, with acorns paired with leaves and hearts with bells for the purpose of determining the second ghighest trump.

However, in Reunion the cards have the traditional point values found in ace-ten games (A=11, 10=10, K=4, Q=3, J=2), except that the two Jacks at the head of the trump suit are each worth 12 points, for a total of 140 in the pack.

Two games of this group are still played in the Black Forest.

  • Hindersche (also known as Vier-Strich) is a reverse game in which the main aim is to avoid taking card points.
  • Viersche (also known as Hundert) is the corresponding positive game in which the aim is to win card points.
